An Egyptian traveler who lost hope of recovering his suitcase was greeted with a heartwarming surprise upon his return to the UAE, thanks to the diligence and honesty of Sharjah Police.
Hisham Mohammed Ahmed had forgotten one of his three bags at Sharjah International Airport before boarding a flight over two months ago. The suitcase, which held money, cheques, a gold ring, and important personal documents, was left behind amid the rush of other passengers.
“I had three suitcases and was sitting in the lounge waiting for the plane to take off,” he recalled. “I didn’t realize that I had left the third suitcase at the airport until after the plane boarded and the doors closed.”
He said he tried to retrieve it but couldn’t leave the aircraft. After returning home, he attempted to ask a friend to collect it, but due to airport regulations, he was required to claim the bag in person.
Upon his return, Hisham was surprised by the reception he received. “I was so warmly welcomed and a female employee assured me that the suitcase was there and that I could receive it and check all its contents,” he said. “Not only that, but they also told me that the car that was waiting for me would be fully exempt from airport parking fees.”
In gratitude, Hisham recorded a video at the airport documenting his experience and posted it on social media, where it quickly gained attention and praise for the Sharjah Police.
Colonel Matar Sultan Al Ketbi, Head of the Sharjah Airport Police Station, said the case reflected their strict procedures for lost and found items. “Our duty is to return items to their rightful owners, both inside and outside the country, after verifying identities,” he said, noting that this effort falls under their ‘Employee Happiness’ service.
According to Col. Al Ketbi, Sharjah Airport Police recovered 2,400 lost items last year alone, with 612 already documented in the first quarter of this year.
