Orange alert issued for rough seas, strong winds in UAE

The UAE’s weather bureau has issued an orange alert for rough seas and gusty northwesterly winds, with speeds expected to peak at 40kmph. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the alert is in effect from 2pm Thursday until 2pm Friday, April 18.

Waves in the Oman Sea are forecast to reach up to six feet offshore, with conditions remaining choppy until 8:30pm on Friday. The Arabian Gulf is also expected to be rough.

While Friday’s overall weather will be fair, the NCM warned that skies could become partly cloudy and dusty at times, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the country. Moderate to fresh winds may cause blowing dust and sand, with speeds ranging from 15kmph to 30kmph, and gusts of up to 45kmph.

Humidity is expected to rise overnight into Saturday morning, particularly in northern inland areas. Temperatures may soar to 39°C in some internal regions, while dropping to 18°C at night. In the capital, Abu Dhabi, the temperature is forecast to range between 24°C and 30°C. In Dubai, it may range between 23°C and 31°C.
