Dubai Police has successfully concluded a chess tournament for male inmates as part of its preparations for the 2025 Asian Chess Championship for Inmates. The event, organized in partnership with the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, saw forty participants competing for the top spots.
Brigadier Salah Jumaa Bu Osaiba, Acting Director of the General Department of Correctional and Penal Institutions, led the closing ceremony alongside key division heads and Mr. Saeed Yousuf Shukri, Secretary-General of the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.
“This tournament reflects our ongoing commitment to rehabilitation through intellectual and cultural activities,” Brigadier Bu Osaiba said. He added that Dubai’s inmate team had previously earned top honors at the 2024 Continental Chess Championship held virtually in the U.S., and they are now gearing up for the next regional challenge.
The top three players were awarded medals in a ceremony that celebrated the role of chess in enhancing focus, discipline, and critical thinking. Brigadier Bu Osaiba also presented a commemorative shield to Mr. Shukri in recognition of the club’s efforts in supporting inmate development.
