In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in distress and ensure their reintegration, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration welcomed a repatriated Filipina domestic worker from Qatar at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.
The 36-year old mother of two, is one of the 17 OFWs who were detained by the Qatari police and were subsequently released. The repatriated OFW was the only one whose employment was affected after her employer decided to terminate her services.
This led her to apply for voluntary repatriation and immediate assistance from the DMW-OWWA-Migrant Workers Office in Qatar, under the One Country-Team Approach led by the Department of Foreign Affairs-Philippine Embassy.
The OFW has been employed in Qatar since 2019, and was previously deployed as a domestic worker in Kuwait from 2016 to 2019. Coming back to the Philippines, she expressed desire in enhancing her skills through training and livelihood programs from the government.
“We shall provide training, reemployment, and livelihood assistance as she is interested in the field of culinary arts, and accounting as well,” assured Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac.
The OFW landed around 4:00 in the afternoon at NAIA Terminal 1 and was welcomed by the DMW officials led by Undersecretaries Jainal T. Rasul, Jr. and Dominique Rubia-Tutay, Assistant Secretary Maria Angela Regina Galias, National Reintegration Center for OFWs Director Andrea Luisa Anolin, and DMW-NCR Regional Director Falconi Millar.
She was immediately reunited with her two children aged 12 and 16 and family members, who were waiting for her at the airport.
The Pinay OFW received financial assistance under the DMW’s AKSYON Fund, and a Training Scholarship Certificate from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and opportunities to avail of various livelihood programs, for seamless reintegration into her community.
