The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has pledged full support to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose 5-year-old daughter died after an SUV plowed through the departure area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Sunday morning.
The OFW, who was preparing to leave for Europe at the time of the incident, also saw his wife and mother injured in the crash. His wife remains in critical condition in the hospital, while his mother has been reported to be in stable condition.
The DMW assured the affected worker that it is ready to coordinate with his employer abroad and help explain his delayed departure. “We fervently pray for the swift recovery of his wife and for the safety of all those affected by this tragedy,” the agency stated.
The department also called for accountability, expressing solidarity with the grieving family in their demand for justice.
In the wake of the deadly incident, which also claimed the life of another adult male and left several others hurt, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the SUV driver’s license. Both the driver and the vehicle’s owner have been ordered to explain their side.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed that the driver will undergo a drug test, and a full review of CCTV footage is underway as part of a broader investigation in coordination with airport and law enforcement officials.
