Dubai Police have arrested several individuals involved in violent incidents that broke out following the UAE Pro League match between Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli football clubs. The match, which took place at Zabeel Stadium on May 3, ended with Al Wasl claiming a 2-1 victory.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation after the game, leveraging surveillance footage and video analysis to identify those responsible for the disturbances. Those arrested have been referred to the appropriate legal authorities for further proceedings.

In addition to the arrests, the UAE Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee imposed significant penalties on both clubs. Shabab Al Ahli was fined AED 70,000 for incidents involving fans who verbally abused rival supporters and threw water bottles onto the pitch. Al Wasl received a heftier fine of AED 80,000 after its fans ignited a smoke flare, hurled objects onto the field, and directed offensive chants at the opposition.

Dubai Police emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment at sporting events, urging fans to avoid any form of fanaticism or misconduct. “Sporting events are intended to bring enjoyment and foster healthy competition in a spirit of mutual respect among fans,” an official stated. “Stadiums must remain spaces of camaraderie and joy, not arenas of conflict and aggression.”

The police also reiterated their commitment to securing stadiums, protecting attendees, monitoring vehicle movement, and providing essential services before, during, and after matches.

Separately, the UAE Football Association also announced the suspension of the refereeing team that officiated the match between Al Ain and Al Jazira on Sunday. The referees will be suspended until the end of the season, a decision made in accordance with the internal regulations of the Referees Committee.
