Stargazers in UAE set for stunning Milky Way spectacle

As summer begins, UAE residents can look forward to a breathtaking natural show—the Milky Way Galaxy will light up the night skies from May to October, with its most brilliant display peaking in July and August.

Skywatchers will have a rare opportunity to witness the galaxy’s radiant core, a dazzling cluster of stars illuminating the heavens. But capturing this celestial wonder requires choosing the right location, far from city lights.

The Dubai Astronomy Group recommends Al Qua’a in Abu Dhabi as the top destination for stargazing. Nestled in a remote desert area, Al Qua’a provides an unobstructed view of the Milky Way’s dense, star-filled core. Visitors are advised to park at the base of a dirt path and walk deeper into the desert to avoid light and dust interference.

Another excellent spot is Sawhkan Dam in Ras Al Khaimah, just a short drive from Dubai. Known for its clear skies and rugged valleys, this location offers an immersive stargazing experience. Those in Dubai can head to Al Qudra Desert, a peaceful expanse where the stars shine brightly above the tranquil landscape. To minimize light pollution, it is best to drive past the Love Lake and follow the cycling path into the quieter areas of the desert.

For a more elevated experience, Jebel Jais—UAE’s highest peak—offers a magical view of the night sky, complete with designated camping areas for a complete stargazing adventure. Meanwhile, Tala Mareeb in Liwa, with its remote location and minimal light interference, is perfect for those seeking solitude under the stars.
