Abu Dhabi lowers speed limits on two major highways to boost road safety

The Abu Dhabi Mobility Center has introduced reduced speed limits on two major highways—Sweihan Road (E20) and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11)—as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance road safety.

Under the updated guidelines, the speed limit on Sweihan Road (E20) between Abu Dhabi and Sweihan has been lowered from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. Meanwhile, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11), a critical route connecting Abu Dhabi Industrial City to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, now has a reduced speed limit of 140 km/h, down from 160 km/h.

The change on E11, which was initially announced last month, took effect on April 14, 2025. These measures align with Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to minimize traffic accidents, especially in high-speed zones experiencing increased vehicle activity.

Authorities have urged motorists to adhere to the revised limits, emphasizing that compliance is crucial for ensuring safer roads.
