Customs officials intercept 5 kilograms of marijuana at Zayed International Airport

Customs officers at Zayed International Airport successfully intercepted a drug smuggling attempt involving 5 kilograms of marijuana concealed within a traveller’s luggage, according to the General Administration of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

The discovery occurred during routine baggage inspections when customs teams grew suspicious of a passenger’s bags passing through advanced scanning systems. The scans highlighted irregular substances, triggering a more thorough manual search. Assistance from the K9 unit of the Customs and Security Support Administration confirmed the presence of marijuana cleverly hidden within the luggage.

In a statement, the Authority emphasized its commitment to enhancing inspection measures by leveraging the latest technology and advanced techniques. “We remain vigilant in protecting our community from the threats posed by narcotics,” an official statement read.
