All you need to know about Etihad Rail as it prepares for a 2026 launch

The UAE’s highly anticipated Etihad Rail passenger service is set to transform travel across the country, with operations expected to begin in 2026. This ambitious project aims to redefine connectivity between major cities and regions, offering a faster, greener, and more convenient mode of transportation.

A national network spanning seven emirates

Once operational, Etihad Rail will connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE through a 1,200-kilometer railway network. Major destinations include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Al Ain, Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Al Dhaid, Ghuweifat (near Saudi Arabia), and Sohar in Oman via the Hafeet Rail project.

The service is expected to carry around 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030, significantly easing road traffic and promoting sustainable travel options.

High-speed and scenic travel

Etihad Rail’s passenger trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h, with specific routes offering even faster travel. For instance:

Abu Dhabi to Dubai: 57 minutes

Abu Dhabi to Ruwais: 70 minutes

Abu Dhabi to Fujairah: 105 minutes

Dubai to Fujairah: 50 minutes

A special high-speed line will also link Abu Dhabi and Dubai, reducing travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h. The high-speed route will have six stations, including key areas like Reem Island, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, and Jaddaf near Dubai Creek.

Modern stations and world-class amenities

Etihad Rail’s passenger stations will be strategically located, including sites in Sakamkam (Fujairah), University City (Sharjah), and areas near the Jumeirah Golf Estates metro station in Dubai. In Abu Dhabi, the station is expected to be situated between Mussafah Industrial Area and Mohammed Bin Zayed City.

Passengers can expect a first-class experience with modern amenities, including:

Spacious, comfortable seating in first, business, and economy classes

Free WiFi, infotainment systems, and charging stations

Advanced air-conditioning and real-time travel information

Scenic views of the UAE’s diverse landscapes, from cityscapes to mountains and deserts

Easy ticketing and seamless connectivity

Traveling on Etihad Rail will be hassle-free, with plans to integrate Dubai’s Nol card for ticket payments. Passengers will also benefit from door-to-door service, thanks to connections with public transport and other shared mobility solutions.
