Fujairah Police to boost road safety with new pedestrian crossings

Fujairah Police are set to enhance pedestrian safety across the emirate with the introduction of new pedestrian crossings, aiming to reduce accidents and protect road users.

The initiative is part of a broader traffic safety plan by the Fujairah Police General Command, which involves identifying high-risk areas where new pedestrian crossings are most needed. The goal is to minimize run-over incidents and ensure that pedestrians can cross roads safely.

Brigadier General Saleh Mohammed Abdullah Al Dhahnahani, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, emphasized the importance of this project, noting that it will also involve redesigning and repositioning existing pedestrian crossings in areas known for frequent accidents.

In line with this effort, the police recently launched a month-long campaign titled “Pedestrians Have the Right to Cross Safely,” which targets both drivers and pedestrians. This campaign focuses on educating the public about the importance of using designated crossings and avoiding risky behaviors that endanger lives.

“Additionally, the campaign promotes a culture of using designated pedestrian crossings and avoiding risky behaviors that endanger lives,” Fujairah Police stated.

The move is consistent with the Ministry of Interior’s strategic vision of improving road safety across the UAE. Under Federal Traffic and Road Law, jaywalking remains a punishable offense with a fine of AED 400, highlighting the importance of adhering to traffic rules for everyone’s safety.
