Dubai Municipality has officially announced the completion of a massive redevelopment of the Dubai Creek wharf on the Deira side—spanning two kilometers and costing Dh112 million. The project enhances both commercial and touristic activities along the city’s iconic waterway while preserving its historical character.
The comprehensive upgrade focused on improving structural safety, navigation, and efficiency. Among the enhancements were a new retaining wall raised to 8.3 metres, the installation of 200 mooring anchors, and the addition of 500 berths to accommodate a wide range of vessels.
“This development is a strategic infrastructure milestone that supports the vision of Dubai’s leadership and the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33,” said Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
To further enhance maritime operations, engineers dredged 17,500 cubic metres from the creek bed, added 24,000 cubic metres of rock for reinforcement, and installed a rainwater drainage system spanning 1,200 metres. More than 22,000 cubic metres of concrete and over 1,300 precast blocks were also used in the project, which clocked over 620,000 man-hours.
The new quay now covers 320,000 square feet and includes designated cargo handling areas and a scenic promenade for residents and tourists to enjoy.
While the Deira side is now complete, work on the Bur Dubai section—stretching 2.3 kilometers—is ongoing. Once finished, both sides of the creek will offer enhanced maritime safety and greater operational capacity, strengthening Dubai’s long-standing role as a vital regional trading hub.
