As temperatures continue to rise across the Emirates, the UAE has launched a nationwide initiative to help residents find relief from the scorching summer heat.
The General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments & Zakat announced on Friday, May 23, that it is setting up shaded zones in mosques and public areas to offer protection from extreme heat and humidity. The move aims to ensure safer and more comfortable spaces for worshippers and the wider public.
The project involves installing canopies and other structures designed to reduce sun exposure during peak hours. Work on the shaded zones has already begun at several sites, with expansion planned over the coming months.
This measure comes as part of broader efforts to protect the community, especially during the hottest period of the year, when temperatures in some areas can climb well above 45°C.
