An Abu Dhabi court has held a father financially responsible after his son, while riding an electric bike, jumped a red light and crashed into a woman’s car, resulting in both material and emotional damages.
According to a Gulf Today report, the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court ruled that the father must pay AED 2,380 in compensation to the woman, who sustained losses due to the accident. The woman had initially sought over AED 25,000 for vehicle repairs and more than AED 26,000 for moral damages, in addition to 12% legal interest.
The court based its ruling on an expert report, which detailed that the car repairs cost AED 1,850, while renting a replacement vehicle for three days came to AED 270. Towing and other fees added AED 260, bringing the total to AED 2,380.
As the legal guardian of the minor involved, the court ruled that the father bears responsibility for the incident and is therefore obligated to settle the full amount.
