Vehicle inspections in Dubai now require prior booking via RTA app or website starting June 2

Starting June 2, 2025, vehicle inspections at all technical testing centres across Dubai will require a prior appointment through the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) mobile app or website, the authority announced.

This new mandatory system aims to streamline services, reduce waiting times, and improve the overall customer experience. Walk-in visits will still be allowed at 19 selected centres for those without appointments, but an additional fee of AED 100 will apply.

Eight testing centres, including Wasel Al Arabian, Shamil Al Adid, and Tasjeel Al Tawar, will operate strictly on an appointment-only basis, without any walk-in option.

The decision follows a successful pilot program launched in October 2024 at Tasjeel Al Qusais and Al Barsha, which saw a 46% drop in waiting times and a 15% drop in physical transaction congestion.

“The outcomes of the pilot phase demonstrated a clear improvement and a positive shift in reducing congestion at inspection centres, particularly during peak hours,” said Qais Al Farsi, Director of Vehicle Licensing at the RTA.

Al Farsi added that the wider rollout is expected to cut wait times by roughly 40% and better manage facility occupancy levels. He also clarified that the mandatory appointment rule does not apply to vehicles owned by People of Determination and senior citizens or residents, in line with the RTA’s inclusive service policy.

The appointment system now covers 27 testing centres across Dubai, with Tasjeel Hatta being the only exception. Appointments can be scheduled through the ‘RTA Dubai’ app or by visiting www.rta.ae.
