Sharjah City Municipality has cracked down on a residence illegally used as a facility to bottle and sell tap water falsely labeled as Zamzam, deceiving the public and putting health at risk.
The operation was uncovered during a routine inspection, when municipal teams noticed suspicious activity involving the loading of large quantities of bottled water into vehicles from a residential area. Upon further investigation, inspectors raided the site and found cartons and bottles filled with non-Zamzam water under unhygienic conditions.
“These were being promoted as Zamzam water and sold at inflated prices through misleading channels,” confirmed Sharjah City Municipality Director General Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji. He stressed that such actions are a blatant violation of public health standards and trust.
What raised further alarm was the discovery of invoices bearing the name of a licensed company, R.T. Mineral Water Trading. Investigators determined that the individual behind the operation was fraudulently using the company’s name and branding to sell counterfeit products.
The Municipality coordinated with the Department of Economic Development and Sharjah Police to shut down the operation and refer the suspect for legal action. The residence was sealed, and all items were confiscated in line with protocol.
Al Tunaiji underscored the municipality’s ongoing efforts to root out deceptive practices that pose risks to the public. “We are committed to monitoring and eliminating illegal activities that exploit consumers or compromise their safety,” he said.
