Dubai residents can expect a major improvement in traffic flow to and from the Al Warqa area as a new entry and exit route from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is set to open next week, dramatically cutting travel time from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes.
Announced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the newly completed routes are designed to handle an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour. First unveiled in October 2024, the project is part of a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing congestion and boosting connectivity.
The new access roads will reduce the distance for key trips from 5.7 kilometers to only 1.5 kilometers—a change that could transform daily commutes for thousands of residents.
Meanwhile, the Dh332-million Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project is also nearing its final stages. The project will feature an 800-meter tunnel with four lanes in both directions, connecting Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to ease east-west traffic flow.
Upgrades are also progressing across Al Warqa 1, 3, and 4. In Al Warqa 1, Street 13 has been enhanced, benefiting local residents and nearby schools. Future developments include replacing roundabouts with smart signalised intersections, expected to improve traffic efficiency by 30% by year-end.
In Al Warqa 4, the RTA has made targeted improvements near the School of Research Science and GEMS Royal Dubai School. The addition of 150 new parking spots and redesigned access points have cut school-related traffic congestion by up to 50%.
The area is also seeing enhancements tied to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment’s 136-villa community, including pedestrian paths, roads, lighting, and a new 7.4km cycling track that promotes eco-friendly commuting and recreation.
These efforts are part of Dubai’s broader vision to create smarter, more accessible urban spaces that prioritize both convenience and sustainability.
