As part of the 2025 National Heritage Month celebration, the Philippine Embassy in the UAE brought stories to life through a vibrant storytelling event titled “Alamat at Pagkakaibigan: Celebrating our Shared Heritage.” The event, which gathered students from Filipino private schools (FIPA), spotlighted the richness of Filipino folklore and the power of friendship across cultures.
The event opened with Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Arvic V. Arevalo reading Sandosenang Sapatos, a beloved Filipino story that captivated the young audience with its heartfelt message of love and resilience.
Embassy officers Iris Costales and Vincent Echavez followed with The Legend of Maria Karayuman, an enchanting tale inspired by Philippine mythology. Wrapping up the session was Cultural Officer Patricia de Vries, who shared My Muslim Friend, a touching story that highlighted the beauty of interfaith understanding and cultural harmony.
Beyond the storytelling, the activity served as a bridge for cultural connection, reminding the youth of the importance of preserving Filipino heritage while embracing diversity. This aligns with this year’s theme: “Preserving Legacies, Building Futures: Empowering Communities Through Heritage.”
