Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out a new policy that designates priority seating at the front of all public buses for senior citizens, pregnant women, and mothers with children.
Announced Sunday, the initiative reflects the RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance inclusivity and accessibility across its transport system. By placing these seats at the front of the bus, the RTA aims to provide greater ease, comfort, and dignity to vulnerable riders.
“Reserving front seats for those who need them most is a simple yet powerful step toward a more compassionate commuting culture,” an RTA representative emphasized.
Dubai’s bus fleet plays a vital role in the city’s transport system, operating more than 1,390 buses across 187 routes and making over 11,000 trips daily. Serving upwards of half a million passengers, the fleet is equipped with air-conditioning, safety features, and facilities to support People of Determination.
This new seating policy comes alongside broader upgrades. The RTA recently completed maintenance on numerous bus shelters and confirmed their operational readiness until at least mid-2025. Additionally, six new dedicated bus and taxi lanes, totaling 13 kilometers, are expected to open soon. The expansion aims to increase bus ridership by 10%, cut travel times by 41%, and improve on-time arrivals by 42%.
