UAE residents look ahead as three public holidays remain in 2025

After the long Eid Al Adha weekend, residents in the UAE are back to their daily routines and already anticipating the next official day off. According to UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, three public holidays are still scheduled for the remainder of the year, with dates subject to confirmation closer to each event.

The Islamic New Year is expected to be observed on Thursday, June 26, marking the first day of Muharram with a one-day break.

Another one-day holiday will likely fall on Friday, September 5, for the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This date corresponds with the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal, although it remains tentative pending the official moon sighting.

The final public holiday for the year is UAE National Day, which will grant a two-day break on December 2 and 3, falling on a Tuesday and Wednesday.

Under Article 2 of the resolution, non-Eid holidays can be shifted to the start or end of the week based on a Cabinet decision. However, public holidays that coincide with weekends or overlap with other holidays will not be moved or compensated, as outlined in Article 3. Meanwhile, Article 4 grants local authorities the flexibility to declare additional holidays for special occasions or administrative needs.
