As tensions between Iran and Israel intensified into the eighth day of open conflict, the United Arab Emirates has safely evacuated a number of its citizens and residents from Iran, UAE authorities confirmed.
The evacuation was carried out in coordination with Iranian officials, amid the escalating military strikes between the two countries. The UAE emphasized that its move reflects a precautionary approach to protect lives, especially as the conflict shows no signs of easing.
Israel’s bombardment campaign, which began on June 13, has reportedly targeted several military sites in Iran, including facilities in Tehran linked to missile and nuclear programs. In retaliation, Iran launched another wave of missile attacks early Friday, hitting areas near homes and industrial zones in Beersheba, southern Israel.
In a show of diplomatic outreach, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier this week, voicing the country’s “solidarity with Iran and its people” in the wake of Israeli airstrikes.
The UAE reiterated its stance that “diplomacy and dialogue” remain the only viable paths to achieving peace and stability in the region, calling on all parties to commit to a long-term resolution that serves justice and prosperity for all.
