An Air India flight en route from Birmingham to New Delhi was forced to divert to Riyadh on Sunday, June 21, after receiving a bomb threat mid-air.
According to Indian news agency ANI, flight AI 114 made an emergency landing in the Saudi capital, where it was promptly subjected to security protocols.
“Flight AI 114 from Birmingham to Delhi on June 21 received a bomb threat and was consequently diverted to Riyadh, where it landed safely and completed security checks,” a spokesperson for Air India confirmed.
This incident follows another bomb scare just over a week earlier, when Air India flight AI 379 from Phuket to Delhi requested an emergency landing due to a similar threat.
The airline has also been grappling with operational challenges in recent days. On Friday, it canceled multiple international and domestic flights citing factors such as adverse weather, increased aircraft inspections, and airspace constraints. Routes affected included those to and from Dubai, Chennai, Delhi, Melbourne, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
Air India has not disclosed the source of the latest threat, but authorities have confirmed the aircraft was cleared following thorough checks in Riyadh.
