Three inspiring former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were recognized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for their successful shift from working abroad to building sustainable businesses at home.
The awarding ceremony for “LIKHAng Kababaihan 2025: Linangin ang Kakayahan sa Kabuhayan” was held on June 25 at the DMW Office in Makati City, celebrating the achievements of women who have turned their overseas experience into local entrepreneurial success.
Sweet Rose Montepio from the Davao Region, once a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, took home the grand prize of P500,000 and a plaque of recognition. Montepio impressed the judges with her eco-friendly business producing bags made from plastic straps—an initiative the DMW described as both financially empowering and environmentally conscious.
Joining her in the spotlight were Maria Carmelita Agbalog from Northern Mindanao and Rowena Cerodo from Soccsksargen, who placed second and third, respectively, for their own thriving livelihood projects.
The “LIKHAng Kababaihan” program is a key part of the DMW’s National Reintegration Network, which supports returning OFWs—especially women—in building meaningful and self-sustaining lives after working overseas.
