Emirates NBD clarifies DirectRemit remains zero-fee for key countries

Emirates NBD has assured customers that sending money to the Philippines through its DirectRemit service remains free, despite confusion caused by a recent notification about new transfer fees.

Concerns arose after the bank issued an alert stating that a fee of AED 26.25, inclusive of VAT, would be applied to all international transfers starting September 1, 2025. This led many to believe the charges would extend to DirectRemit transactions, which are popular among overseas workers sending money home.

In a clarification sent to media, Emirates NBD emphasized:
“To clarify: Emirates NBD will not be charging Dh26 for remittances to key corridors such as India, Pakistan, Egypt, and the Philippines. These corridors will remain free of charge for our customers.”

The bank explained that the AED 26.25 fee applies only to non-core corridors, as aligned with Central Bank regulations. DirectRemit transfers to major remittance destinations—including the Philippines—are unaffected.

The bank is now reaching out to customers via electronic direct mail and will publish a formal press release to address the misunderstanding.

Emirates NBD encourages users to check their mobile app or online platform to verify if their intended recipient country falls under the zero-fee DirectRemit corridor.
