Dubai has earned global recognition as the third most beautiful city to explore after sunset, while Abu Dhabi was ranked 12th overall—and took the top spot for nighttime safety—according to a recent study by UK travel agency Travelbag.
The ranking highlights the UAE’s rising profile in the world of noctourism, a growing travel trend that emphasizes experiences after dark, including stargazing, night safaris, and late-evening city tours.
Dubai’s skyline dazzled its way to third place thanks to its illuminated landmarks and 190 late-night venues, from rooftop lounges to desert safaris. While it scored 52.58 out of 100 for combined noise and light pollution, it still managed to balance vibrant nightlife with a quality urban environment.
Abu Dhabi, with 62 night-friendly venues, stood out for an entirely different reason—safety. The UAE capital was named the safest city in the world to explore at night, a crucial factor for travelers seeking peace of mind while venturing out under the stars.
Travelbag’s study points to a notable spike in interest for night desert safaris in Dubai, with online searches rising by 22%. In response to the region’s intense daytime heat, Dubai has also introduced night swimming at three public beaches, giving residents and tourists more reasons to stay out after sundown.
