UAE and Kuwait intercept massive drug shipment in major joint operation

Authorities in the UAE and Kuwait have dealt a major blow to international drug traffickers, intercepting a maritime shipment carrying over 100 kilograms of crystal meth and 10 kilograms of heroin.

The joint operation, which seized the drugs before they could flood the streets, was announced by the UAE’s Ministry of Interior late Wednesday via X. The illicit haul is valued at approximately KD 1.15 million, or $3.7 million.

“With pride, we affirm that this cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Interior and its Kuwaiti counterpart embodies a shared vision in combating the scourge of drugs,” the ministry stated, underscoring the trust and coordination between both nations.

The bust followed weeks of coordinated intelligence-gathering between the two countries. Authorities tracked a maritime container flagged as suspicious, allowing it to proceed under surveillance until it reached its final stop in Kuwait’s Amghara industrial area. There, an Afghan national was caught receiving the shipment.

Kuwait’s customs officers, the Ministry of Interior, and the General Directorate of Fire Services collaborated to ensure the container was safely opened and examined.

Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al Sabah, expressed gratitude to UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the “vital intelligence contributions” that led to the successful takedown.
