Dubai Police have arrested a young Asian man after a viral video showed him overtaking vehicles on the road shoulder at dangerously high speeds, risking lives and violating traffic laws.
According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, the man’s reckless behavior triggered an immediate investigation. “The driver was subsequently referred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings,” Al Mazrouei confirmed, stressing that such acts are not only illegal but pose grave dangers to both motorists and pedestrians.
Al Mazrouei warned that sharing videos of such stunts can encourage copycat behavior, especially among youth and unknowing individuals. “Disseminating such content harms the community and undermines efforts to promote traffic safety awareness,” he said.
Dubai Police acted swiftly to identify and arrest the driver, enforcing Decree No. 30 of 2023 on vehicle impoundment, which imposes a fine of AED 50,000 to release an impounded car.
Citing alarming data, Al Mazrouei noted that around 80 percent of similar violators have been linked to severe accidents, many resulting in death or serious injury. He reaffirmed the police’s zero-tolerance stance on such violations and encouraged residents to report reckless behavior through the Dubai Police app or by calling 901.
“Creating a safe road environment requires joint efforts,” Al Mazrouei added, assuring the public that the force will continue using advanced technology to keep roads secure at all times.
