The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is set to open applications for its two major scholarship programs—the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP)—from July 16 to July 31, 2025.
These annual scholarships are designed to support the educational aspirations of qualified dependents of active OWWA members, offering up to ₱60,000 in annual financial assistance depending on the program.
Two programs, two paths to success
The EDSP targets high-achieving students and is open to incoming freshmen and 2nd to 5th-year college students aged 30 and below. Applicants must have a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 85% with no failing grades and must pass the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) qualifying exam. This competitive program offers ₱60,000 per academic year and is limited to only 600 slots nationwide.
On the other hand, the ODSP caters to dependents of OFWs earning $600 (approx. ₱34,000) or less per month. The program is open to incoming college freshmen aged 21 and below, and to continuing students up to age 30, as long as they are single. A minimum GWA of 75% is required. Qualified scholars receive ₱20,000 per year until they complete their degree.
Application process and requirements
Applications must be submitted online through the OWWA scholarship portal: scholarship.owwa.gov.ph. Among the key documentary requirements are the following:
PSA Birth Certificate
Certificate of No Marriage (for siblings of OFWs)
OFW parent’s proof of income
School records showing eligibility based on GWA
2×2 ID photos and valid OFW documents
Eligible applicants are strongly encouraged to prepare their documents ahead of the July 16 opening to avoid delays or system congestion.
Supporting OFW families through education
Both EDSP and ODSP reflect OWWA’s commitment to investing in the future of Filipino families by easing the financial burden of college education.
