Sharjah Airport welcomed 9.11 million travelers in the first six months of 2025, marking a 10% jump compared to 8.31 million during the same period last year, according to figures released on Wednesday.
Sharjah Airport Authority chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa attributed the strong growth to strategic investments and close cooperation with key partners. He emphasized that the airport remains committed to delivering top-tier travel experiences and meeting the evolving expectations of passengers.
“Sharjah Airport continues to align with Sharjah’s aspirations to be a preferred destination for travel, tourism, and business, through our ongoing commitment to implementing ambitious development plans,” Al Midfa said. He noted that the airport’s enhancements are driven by smart technologies, sustainability efforts, and infrastructure upgrades.
Passenger volumes are expected to rise further, with current expansion plans aimed at boosting the airport’s capacity to 25 million annually by the end of 2027.
Sharjah Airport is also steadily expanding its flight network. This month, direct flights to Damascus resumed through Air Arabia after a year-long suspension, operating twice daily. Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines launched operations at the airport in June, strengthening Sharjah’s aviation links with the African continent.
In June alone, officials projected that over 800,000 travelers would pass through the airport between July 1 and 15, largely due to the summer travel rush.
Beyond passenger growth, Sharjah Airport recorded a 4.3% increase in aircraft movements, totaling 54,953 in the first half of 2025. Cargo operations also climbed to new heights, registering a 6.36% increase and handling over 102,000 tonnes of goods.
