Sharjah Police have reported a major drop in road fatalities across the emirate, with deaths from traffic accidents decreasing by 24% in 2024 compared to the previous year. The current road fatality rate now stands at 1.76 per 100,000 people — a significant milestone reflecting the force’s intensified efforts in traffic safety.
Central to this progress were 12 targeted campaigns rolled out by the Traffic and Patrols Department in coordination with the Security Media Department. These campaigns tackled key risk behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, unsafe motorcycling, jaywalking, and illegal parking. Nearly 906,000 people across the emirate were reached through these awareness programs.
Sharjah Police also played a vital role in managing traffic at 272 major events and offered support for nearly 2,000 road maintenance and development projects, aiming to ease congestion and improve safety infrastructure.
Brigadier Mohammed Alay Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, credited the community’s role in the success. “The drop in fatalities reflects the collective responsibility shared by the public and the authorities,” he said, adding that Sharjah Police will continue to focus on prevention, education, and enforcement to make roads safer for all.
