Private sector workers across the UAE will enjoy a paid day off on Friday, June 27, in celebration of the Islamic New Year, officially marking the start of Hijri year 1447 AH.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) made the announcement in accordance with the list of approved public holidays for 2025 issued by the UAE Cabinet. As the Islamic calendar follows lunar months, the new year begins on the first day of Muharram.
For many employees whose weekends fall on Saturday and Sunday, this declaration means a long weekend from June 27 to 29, with regular work resuming on Monday, June 30.
The holiday is extended to both private and public sector workers under the UAE’s unified public holiday policy, ensuring equal time off across sectors. The Islamic New Year holiday comes just weeks after the country observed an extended break during Eid Al Adha.
