Taxi driver caught overcharging at NAIA faces license revocation

Authorities are moving to revoke the license of a taxi driver caught on video demanding an excessive fare from a passenger at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), a move aimed at cracking down on abusive transport practices.

The driver of the taxi with plate number NIS-8163 was recorded charging P1,260 for a short ride between NAIA Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. The incident quickly went viral, prompting swift action from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon has directed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to take immediate action against public utility drivers involved in overcharging or other forms of misconduct.

The LTFRB revealed that the provisional authority of the taxi operator had already expired in March 2023, raising further questions about its continued operation.

New NAIA Infra Corp., which oversees airport operations, also confirmed that the taxi involved was not accredited to pick up passengers from the terminals.
