UAE waives fines and relaxes visa rules for Sudanese amid crisis

Sudanese nationals living in the UAE can now renew their residency permits, apply for new visas, and obtain Emirates ID cards—even if their passports are valid for less than six months—under a new humanitarian measure rolled out by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

This exceptional policy, which took effect on May 19 and will remain in place until the end of 2025, aims to help Sudanese residents affected by the conflict in their home country. The Authority confirmed that visa overstayers can regularize their status through official digital channels, with all accumulated fines waived.

The initiative, implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, highlights the UAE’s ongoing support for communities facing hardship. Officials stressed that the decision reflects the leadership’s compassion for those caught in crisis, particularly Sudanese nationals unable to renew passports due to the ongoing turmoil.
