Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport has called on all passengers to double-check their flight details before making their way to the airport, as regional tensions continue to cause flight disruptions across the Gulf.
In a public advisory released on June 24, airport officials stressed that the safety and well-being of passengers remain paramount, amid a wave of delays and reroutes linked to temporary airspace closures.
The disruptions stem from Iran’s missile strike on a US military base in Qatar, which triggered airspace shutdowns in Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. While Bahrain and Kuwait have since reopened their skies, the ripple effects continue to impact flight operations across the region.
Sharjah Airport also warned travellers of potential delays and cancellations, encouraging them to stay informed through their airlines.
Dubai Airports confirmed on Monday evening that operations had resumed at full capacity after a brief suspension earlier in the day. However, it cautioned passengers that delays could still occur and advised them to check directly with their airlines.
Airlines are adjusting in real time. Etihad Airways announced it rerouted several flights on June 23 and 24 “as a precaution,” and continues to monitor the situation closely. Customers were urged to verify the status of their bookings through the airline’s website.
Air Arabia, operating out of Sharjah, acknowledged the disruptions and said affected passengers would be contacted via SMS and email. Emirates airline, meanwhile, confirmed it rerouted some flights on June 23 but noted that no diversions were ultimately necessary.
Airport and airline authorities across the UAE remain on high alert, coordinating efforts to maintain flight schedules and ensure the safety of all travellers during this period of uncertainty.
