Etihad, Emirates and other airlines cancel flights as regional tensions disrupt air travel

Etihad Airways has confirmed the cancellation of several flights as tensions continue to rise in the region following Iran’s missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

In an ARN News report, the UAE flag carrier said services to and from Kuwait, Doha, and Dammam on Tuesday have been scrapped due to what it described as a “highly dynamic situation.” The airline warned that “further changes or disruption may occur at short notice.”

Etihad listed the affected flights as EY651 and EY652 (Abu Dhabi–Kuwait round trip), EY663 and EY664 (Abu Dhabi–Doha), and EY575 and EY576 (Abu Dhabi–Dammam). It also announced an extended suspension of flights to Israel until July 15 and advised passengers connecting through Abu Dhabi to cancelled destinations not to proceed with their journeys.

Emirates has similarly rerouted flights to avoid conflict zones, citing “a thorough and careful risk assessment.” While it emphasized that operations continue, the airline cautioned that some services may be delayed due to longer flight paths and increased airspace congestion.

Dubai-based low-cost carrier FlyDubai has suspended services to Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, and St. Petersburg until June 30. It also noted that passengers bound for these locations will not be allowed to transit through Dubai.

Other airlines have followed suit. Air Arabia warned of possible delays due to airspace closures, while Dubai Airports confirmed that flight operations have fully resumed after a precautionary halt. However, it urged passengers to check with their airlines as delays and cancellations could still happen.

International carriers have also responded swiftly. Pakistan International Airlines halted flights to Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Dubai. Egypt Air canceled services from Cairo to several Gulf cities, while Oman Air suspended flights to Dubai, Doha, and Kuwait and warned of delays on other routes due to extended flight times.

Indian budget carrier IndiGo suspended operations to and from multiple Gulf cities and Tbilisi until at least 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Meanwhile, Air Canada extended its suspension of Toronto–Dubai flights until August 4.

With escalating tensions affecting multiple countries and airspaces, travelers are strongly advised to check for real-time updates with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.
