Traffic diversions announced in Mirdif as Dubai Metro Blue Line construction ramps up

Motorists traveling through Mirdif are being advised to take alternate routes as traffic diversions kick in to make way for construction on the highly anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday, July 15.

The diversions impact key access points in the bustling district, including the roundabout connecting 5th and 8th Street near City Centre Mirdif. Movement from 5th to 8th Street and vice versa will be rerouted, while a U-turn option will be provided near Ghoroob Square to help manage traffic heading from City Centre Mirdif Street. Shoppers visiting the mall will still be able to access the parking area via a designated alternative route.

The announcement follows last month’s major milestone, when His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially laid the foundation stone of the Blue Line. The ruler also unveiled the design for what will be the world’s tallest metro station — Emaar Properties Station — a golden cylindrical marvel set to rise 74 meters high.

Set to begin operations on September 9, 2029, the 30-kilometer Blue Line will stretch across nine vital communities — from Mirdif to Dubai Festival City — with 14 stations, including three major interchanges. When completed, it’s expected to carry up to 320,000 passengers daily by 2040 and cut road traffic in serviced areas by 20 percent.

With Dh20.5 billion invested and a projected return of over Dh56 million, the Blue Line marks a major step in Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan. It’s the city’s first metro project to receive Platinum Category green building certification, blending cutting-edge transport infrastructure with sustainability.
