19 motorcycles seized in Dubai as delivery riders caught violating safety rules

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has impounded 19 motorcycles after riders were found violating delivery service regulations, including driving without the required safety certifications and failing to wear protective gear.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency, said several riders were caught operating without the mandatory professional training certificate, which ensures they’ve undergone essential practical and theoretical instruction. He emphasized the importance of this qualification, which has been a requirement since December 2022. It covers critical areas such as defensive driving, road safety protocols, and regular motorcycle maintenance.

In a sweeping inspection drive carried out alongside Dubai Police, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Dubai Municipality, and the Dubai Health Authority, a total of 1,059 checks were conducted across key areas including Downtown Dubai, Jumeirah, and Motor City.

Mahboob called on all delivery riders to strictly comply with road safety rules. “(We) will continue to carry out joint inspection and awareness campaigns, in line with achieving global leadership in smooth and sustainable mobility,” he said. He added that these efforts will be bolstered by new circulars and guidelines to foster a safer work environment for all.
