Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is finalizing major improvements at the Dubai Healthcare City exit to Sheikh Zayed Road in a move set to ease one of the city’s most notorious traffic bottlenecks.
The project, scheduled for completion by July 20, 2025, aims to slash congestion by 50% and double the exit’s vehicle capacity to 3,000 cars per hour during rush hours, the RTA confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
At the heart of the upgrade is the transformation of the current stop-controlled exit at Street 13 into a free-flowing route. A new acceleration lane will connect directly to the Oud Metha–Sheikh Rashid Road intersection, while the adjacent service road is being expanded from one lane to two along a 500-meter stretch. This will boost traffic flow for vehicles heading from Al Riyadh Street.
“These enhancements are designed to deliver a smoother, safer, and faster commute for everyone in the area — from residents and healthcare workers to students and patients,” the RTA said.
Dubai Healthcare City, a vital zone home to hospitals, clinics, schools, offices, and residential buildings, has long struggled with traffic snarls due to its central location. The RTA emphasized that efficient road access is crucial to its daily operations and long-term growth.
This latest upgrade adds to earlier improvements in the same area, such as widened service roads and the addition of new lanes that already reduced peak-hour congestion by 40%.
