The long-abandoned Philippine Village Hotel in Pasay City will be demolished on April 21 to make way for the construction of a new passenger terminal, according to the San Miguel-led New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC).
“Right after Holy Week, ide-demolish na ‘yan. Gagawa tayo ng panibagong terminal, ‘yan ang Terminal 5. So, siguro in two to three years’ time, that will be finished and [you can] expect a lot of improvements na mangyayari pa,” NNIC General Manager Angelito Alvarez announced in a recent press briefing.
The hotel, built in the 1970s for the Miss Universe pageant, has been abandoned for over two decades. Located on government property beside Terminal 2 and near the Presidential Airlift Wing, authorities have raised security concerns over its continued existence.
Along with Terminal 5, NNIC is also set to build another terminal at the old International Cargo Terminal site. Construction of NAIA Terminal 4 is expected to begin within three months.
“Inaasahan namin [na] dun namin mailalagay ang AirAsia domestic flights plus ibang flights ng Cebu Pacific,” Alvarez added.
These expansions are part of the broader rehabilitation plans for NAIA, which is currently operating far beyond its intended capacity of 34 million passengers annually—handling about 51 million travelers in 2024.
NNIC officially took over operations of the country’s main airport in September 2024 under a 15-year, $3-billion agreement with the government. While a petition questioning the legality of the concession is pending before the Supreme Court, Transport Secretary Vince Dizon has expressed full support for the project.
