Sharjah Ruler approves new salary system for public sector workers

A new salary structure has been approved for government employees in Sharjah, following a directive from the emirate’s ruler, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. The revised system introduces two additional job grades—‘Special A’ and ‘Special B’—and establishes a fixed four-year term per grade to support clearer and faster career progression.

The move aims to improve job stability and advancement for Emiratis working in the public sector. Emirati engineers will also see a significant change, with the introduction of a dedicated ‘Special’ grade for engineering roles and updates to existing job titles, all aligned with the same four-year progression cycle.

Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi, head of Sharjah’s Human Resources Department, said the overhaul would create quicker promotion paths compared to the older system, where employees often had to wait many years to move up from the first grade. He emphasized the new structure rewards commitment and encourages long-term motivation among staff.

The changes will be rolled out in coordination with other government departments and are part of Sharjah’s wider efforts to enhance working conditions and attract more young Emiratis to the public sector.
