Sharjah’s tourism industry showed impressive momentum in 2024, with around 1.6 million hotel guests recorded throughout the year—an 11% increase from the previous year, according to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA).
The figures, unveiled at a press conference during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) at Dubai World Trade Centre, reflect the emirate’s strong push to position itself as a top global destination. The event saw collaboration between SCTDA and over 25 government and private sector entities at the Sharjah Pavilion.
Russian tourists led international arrivals with over 270,000 guests—an 18% increase from 2023—followed by Indian travelers with 170,000 guests, up 6%. Visitors from Europe jumped by 16%, while Chinese arrivals skyrocketed by 828%, totaling over 60,000 guests.
Among Arab nationals, Omanis made up the largest group, comprising 6% of all hotel guests in Sharjah. They were followed by guests from Saudi Arabia (5%), Egypt (4%), and both Syria and Iraq at 3% each.
His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, SCTDA Chairman, attributed the growth to strategic initiatives and the leadership’s vision. “Sharjah is steadily becoming a global tourism destination that fuses tradition with modernity,” he said. He emphasized the authority’s focus on sustainability, innovation, and infrastructure development to further enhance the visitor experience.
The SCTDA also launched its new tourism campaign, “Visit Sharjah,” highlighting the emirate’s blend of adventure, heritage, family attractions, and cultural events such as the Sharjah Light Festival.
At ATM 2025, the Sharjah Pavilion showcased interactive digital displays and virtual experiences, allowing visitors to explore the emirate’s wildlife safari, marine sports, classic cars, and museums through immersive technology. These initiatives aim to strengthen Sharjah’s presence on the global tourism map and offer a glimpse of its rich cultural and natural offerings.
