UAE schools adjust hours to beat the heat and roll out new student support programs

As temperatures rise across the UAE, schools are adjusting their operating hours to prioritize student well-being without compromising education quality.

Starting April 28, classes will run from 7:15 AM to 1:35 PM, Monday to Thursday, and 7:15 AM to 11:00 AM on Fridays, according to the Ministry of Education. The shift aligns with the country’s flexible learning model while ensuring that ministry standards for teaching remain intact. Early years schedules and lesson lengths will remain unchanged.

To reinforce discipline and routine, schools have reminded parents that gates will open at 7:00 AM and close at 7:30 AM. Any late arrivals must be explained by guardians directly to school officials. Administrators also emphasized that punctuality plays a crucial role in a student’s academic performance and overall discipline.

Parents are encouraged to support the new routine at home to help children adjust smoothly.

In a related move, the Ministry of Education has launched enhanced training programs for academic counsellors in both public and private schools under its curriculum. The sessions aim to better equip counsellors in guiding students through key educational and career decisions.

The updated training includes career planning, personal counselling techniques, and the use of modern tools to align students’ interests with future job market opportunities. The ministry says these efforts are part of a broader push to create a stronger, more responsive student support system.

Additionally, the Ministry unveiled an upgraded Educational Pathways System for secondary school students. The new structure simplifies offerings into two main tracks—General and Advanced—each tailored to suit students’ academic potential and career aspirations.
