As part of its 43rd founding anniversary celebration this May, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has teamed up with Philippine Airlines (PAL) to offer a special domestic airfare discount exclusively for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) originating from Iloilo City and province.
Under the theme “Hinubog ng Panahon, Masayang Naglilingkod sa OFW at Pamilya,” OWWA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Filipino workers abroad and their families. This discount, available for flights from Iloilo to Manila with onward connections to other domestic destinations in the Philippines, can be availed of until July 31, 2025.
“This is our way of giving back to our OFWs, whose sacrifices and dedication continue to uplift our nation,” OWWA RWO VI OIC James B. Mendiola said during a press conference at the PAL Office, Plazuela Dos, Iloilo City, on May 10. The event was attended by representatives from PAL, including Anne Tiongco, Vice President for Corporate Affairs, and Leonard Bryan Sansolis, Regional Head – Sales.
To access the special fare, eligible OFWs must present one of the following: an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), a Certificate of Employment, or a Seaman’s Book. The discount cannot be combined with other promotions or government-mandated discounts, such as those for senior citizens, PWDs, students, military personnel, and national athletes or coaches.
This initiative is also part of the broader celebration of Migrant Workers’ Day on June 7, reflecting a shared mission to honor and uplift the Filipino workforce abroad.
Local media outlets, including Journal Visayas, Ilonggo Chronicle, Radyo Pilipinas, Panay News Agency, Aksyon Radyo Iloilo, News Express, Daily Guardian, Bombo Radyo, Philippine Information Agency, and DWIZ FM Iloilo, attended the event to help spread the word among Iloilo’s OFW community.
